Welcome to our blog

Welcome to our blog.  We hope you enjoy following our Million Makers journey.  Our mission is to harness the enthusiasm, energy and entrepreneurial potential of our Million Makers team to raise money for The Prince’s Trust which will be used to help young reach their own positive destination.

This blog will be updated as often as possible as we plan, organise, fundraise and generally come up with witty and interesting content.

On Tuesday 20 Jun 17 The Aviators found themselves in the Dragons Den pitching for £1500 in order to get the seed funding required to kick start our fundraising campaign.

Rewind a few hours and the pitching team consisting of Tony Blood, Jane Buckland, AJ Smith and Mitch Hathway gathered in London the night before to have a final run through of the presentation over a drink and Nando's (other popular food establishments are available).

The presentation slides had been a labour of love for the team in the lead up to the Den and a few late hours, tweaks and changes had been implemented before submitting the final slide deck to The Princes Trust to meet the deadline of 14 Jun 17. Would they stand up against the scrutiny of the Dragons?? We would soon find out.

The following morning the pitching team were joined by team mentor Hayley Belmore as well as team mate Gerry Brown. On a sweltering hot day the team made their way to the venue - we felt ready.

Following a short brief by The Prince's Trust we were guided into the "Den". This was it. The many practice runs and our pretend Dragon's experience came down to this. Many questions certainly went through my mind: "Have we missed out some important detail from the business plan?", "Do the figures add up?", "Are our plans realistic?"

We needn't of worried. The pitch team presented brilliantly and the feedback was fantastic. Considering that for certain members of our team this was a first time at public speaking it didn't show. Everyone spoke clearly and with confidence. The feedback and quetioning session gave us a few bits and pieces to think about to further improve our ideas and we cam away feeling elated about the whole experience.

It was nice to hear from one of the Prince's Trust Mentors that in 11 years and the many presentations she had sat through, ours was up there as one of the very best she shad seen.

The £1500 was offered and we, The Aviators, are ready for launch.
